PRABHAT KUMAR PODDAR
Prabhat was born on 8th August 1949, in one of the leading business families of India, at Bombay. He grew up at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, studied at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education at Pondicherry, where he also did his higher studies in civil engineering, architecture and town planning. He was coordinator of the Auroville Planning Group from 1970 until 1983. From 1983 to 1991, he was the Coordinator of the Alternative Energies research team of the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Scientific Research at Pondicherry. In 1995, he and his wife ILA PODDAR founded the AKASH EDUCATION AND RESEARCH TRUST and in the year 2000 - AKASH FOUNDATION, both at Pondicherry. In1998, he was appointed the Chief Architect and Town Planner for the Golden City Project initiated by the Kalki Oneness spiritual movement 70 kms north of Madras or Chennai at Tada, Andhra Pradesh. ILA VYAS – PODDAR (A LIFE DEDICATED TO KATHAK)
Born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on 27th March 1952, Ila began at an early age of ten, to learn Indian classical dance and Indian Folk dances. In 1968, she joined the famous College of Dance, Music and Dramatics of the Maharaja Sayaji Rao University, in Baroda, for 6 years, under Guruji Sundarlalji Gangani of the Jaipur Gharana. 1971, she earned her B-Mus degree and in 1973 M-Mus. in Kathak. From 1975 to 1978, she was Principal of the private school Sincerite Education, at Bardoli, Gujarat. From 1977 to 2008, she has been performing in different countries on invitations. In November 1996, she was invited personally by Sir Yehudi Menuhin and his Yehudi Menuhin Foundation in Brussels, for a special Kathak performance, which she presented on 17th November, to a thunderous standing ovation.
